A 22-year-old Indian national wanted in a murder case has been arrested by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Peace Bridge crossing after he was denied entry into Canada.

CBP officials said the man, identified as Vishat Kumar, had illegally entered the United States in 2024 and later failed to appear for an asylum interview. During a secondary inspection on November 16, officers discovered he was attempting to hide his identity, and biometric checks confirmed he had been using a false name and date of birth.

Further investigation showed that Kumar is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued in connection with a murder case in India.

Acting area port director Sharon Swiatek said the case underscores the agency’s role in preventing fugitives from evading justice, praising officers for their vigilance and commitment to security.

After processing, Kumar was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE/ERO). He is currently detained at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, awaiting removal proceedings from the United States.
