An Indian-American student has been reported missing in Chicago since May 2, underscoring a grappling pattern as it represents the second such occurrence in the United States within the last two months.

The 26-year-old Rupesh Chitakindi had been reported missing from the 4300 block of N Sheridan Road after being last seen on May 2, according to the Chicago police department.

“The consulate is deeply concerned to learn that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since May 2. The consulate is in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora, hoping to locate or establish contact with Rupesh,” posted the official account of the consulate general of India in Chicago today.

Chitakindi, a civil engineer from Telangana, has been pursuing a master's in business analytics at Concordia University Wisconsin, as per his Facebook account.

Earlier in March, another Indian student went missing in USA, and his body was recovered in April. The body of 25-year-old Mohammed Abdul Arfath, hailing from Hyderabad, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio.

Arfath was pursuing a master’s degree in information technology at Cleveland University, Ohio. He had not been in touch with the family since Mar 7, and his family had received a ransom call in India ahead of his death.
