An Indian-American influencer opened up about his ‘identity crisis’ and how his American wife helped him to be himself and be ‘Indian’ on social media.

Suketu Patel, posted on a joint influencer Instagram account of his and his wife, Hallie, saying that “my wife made me more Indian”.

He says posting a casual video on their account, halfpastchai, “I think a lot of Indian Americans go through this identity crisis when they’re in America. Everyone around them is white. So you try and be that,” Patel admitted in the clip, which has now been watched nearly 58,000 times. “I tried to be white all throughout my high school years. But then, I ran into this girl… Hallie was the first person to ask about my culture and be like, ‘What does this mean? Why do you do this?”

Patel believes that Hallie’s curiosity led him thinking more about his roots and culture, and in turn, loving the way he is.

He concluded the video saying, “It made me start to think—I love who I am, I love my culture. I think I lost a lot of that because I tried to be someone I wasn’t. I truly think I’m more Indian because of Hallie. She just helped me be more myself".

Netizens found it wholesome, and reactions poured in. A user commented, “This is so wholesome!! I hope I make my husband comfortable to be himself!!”

Another user praised Hallie, saying she is, “An amazing person for encouraging you to be yourself and embracing your culture. Sometimes our own partners are the ones who make us believe in ourselves and appreciate where we come from.”

While one non-Indian user commented, “I used to date only Indian men because of the culture and the accent”.
