The Government of India has announced a 30-day extension of visas for foreign nationals stranded in the country due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, while also waiving penalties for those who have overstayed because of the situation.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, all types of Indian visas and e-visas that are expiring or due to expire soon will be extended by one month on a gratis (free) basis for affected foreign nationals. The extension will be granted by the jurisdictional Foreigners Regional Registration Office on a case-to-case basis.

Authorities have also decided that any overstay by affected foreigners after February 28, 2026 will not attract penalties, considering the travel disruptions caused by the ongoing developments in West Asia.

Additionally, exit permits will be issued free of cost to affected foreign nationals wishing to leave the country. The government clarified that failure to apply for visa extension or exit permits during this period will not be treated as a violation of immigration rules due to the exceptional circumstances.

In cases where international flights are diverted to India because of the conflict, foreign passengers will be granted a Temporary Landing Permit (TLP) free of charge.

The move comes as tensions and disruptions in the Gulf region continue to affect international travel, leaving several foreign nationals temporarily stranded in India.
