A Gujarati man in Australia was killed in a brutal stabbing by his room partner on Winton Street in Burwood, Melbourne on Tuesday night.

Mihir Desai (39), originally from Degam in Chikhli taluka in Navsari was allegedly stabbed by an Indian-origin roommate from Punjab.

As per reports, local police and emergency services rushed to the spot. However, Desai succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to the severity of the wounds. A 42-year-old man, who lived in the same house, was arrested at the property and has been charged with murder.

Desai had a love marriage with a woman from his city who obtained a student visa for Australia and from there, sponsored Desai on a spouse visa to join her.

However, within a few years, they divorced, and the woman returned to her native after completing her education. Meanwhile, Desai has been living in Australia for 12 years, working odd jobs to make a living.

He used to live in Burwood with three others in a rented apartment.

On Tuesday night, all four roommates were having a party when Desai and a roommate had an argument over an unidentified issue, which escalated into a heated fight.

The enraged roommate stabbed Desai, leaving him bloodied on the floor.

Desai is survived by his widowed mother- Mayaben, his sister and brother-in-law who live in Germany.

As per reports, the Indian community in Australia has initiated a process to send the dead body to India.
