Mohamed’s victory in the Dewsbury and Batley constituency marked a historic win with 41% votes, picking up 15,641 votes compared to second-placed Labour’s 8,707.

Alok Sharma

Another former Indian-origin Conservative Party MP Alok Sharma has now been elevated to the House of Lords. He has been nominated for an upper house by King Charles.

Sharma decided not to contest the recently completed election, where he had previously served as a Member of Parliament. Earlier, 56-year-old Sharma, born in Agra, played a significant role in reaching an agreement to achieve a pivotal change in climate summit as its president two years ago.

In a historic win Labour Party’s Keir Starmer ended the 14-year-long exile for his party with a landslide victory, securing 411 out of 680 seats.
