A woman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, lost her life in Kathmandu after the  hotel where she was staying was set on fire during violent protests in Nepal, as per reports.

Businessman Ramveer Singh Gola had travelled to Nepal with his wife Rajesh, when their hotel was attacked by demonstrators. In a desperate attempt to escape the flames, Rajesh jumped from the fourth floor but succumbed to her injuries.

Ravi Rana, a former employee of Gola, said he reached out to contacts in Nepal, including retired Gorkha regiment officers, to help locate her. “We shared her photo and details, and soon received information that she had been taken to Kathmandu’s Teaching Hospital. Ramveer Singh Gola went there and sadly confirmed her death,” Rana told the news agency.

The family has now sought assistance from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to bring Rajesh’s body back home.

The tragedy comes amid escalating anti-government protests in Nepal, led largely by a Gen Z movement demanding the dissolution of Parliament and changes to the Constitution. The unrest intensified earlier this week after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli resigned, forcing the Nepal Army to step in to maintain order. The country has since witnessed widespread violence, including arson, looting, and attacks on government institutions.
