An Irish user on social media platform X has faced serious outrage over his remarks about “Indians settling” in his hometown Ireland.
The matter gathered moss when Michael O’Keeffe, an X user with more than 1.11 lakh followers, on September 19, shared a video of an Indian family putting up their nameplate on their house in Limerick, a coastal city based on the eastern shore of Ireland.
Sharing the family’s video, O’Keeffe, identifying himself as an Irishman, captioned the post: “Another house bought up by Indians. Our tiny island is being colonised by a country of 1.5 billion people.”
The video was originally posted on the video content platform TikTok by the user ‘@bushanju’ who has around 159 followers on that site.
In line with his post, O’Keeffe has also made several anti-India comments which read, “Yesterday an Indian student was in court for attempted child abduction,” “I’m calling for an immediate halt to all immigration from India!” and “‘Indians aren’t claiming asylum in Ireland.’ Yes, they are.”
In response to his post, several users countered O’Keeffe by stating: “Indians are loving beings. Don’t have so much hate. If India wants, can buy the whole of Ireland in 30 minutes and trust me that would be good for you guys, which will spare you from the other invasion that you are undergoing.”
Another wrote, “Colonised? Dude they paid for it and bought it cause some Irish was in desperate need of money. It’s not anything unlawful. If you’re so concerned, ask your legislators and govt to make protective laws.”
Meanwhile, one countered O’Keeffe by defining India’s hospitality etiquette, stating, “Seems like lovely people actually! If you stop by you will most likely have the best coffee you ever had in your life!”
Notably, O’Keeffe’s presence on the social media site mainly bids for Irish supremacy, and he makes several comments in line with this ideology.
In separate posts on the site, O’Keeffe has outrageously written, “We have had (sic) enough. It’s time to start sending these foreigners home,” “We need to declare immigration a national emergency in Ireland. Enough is enough!” and “The Irish people are being replaced.”
