Brutal murder of Anand girl raises questions on Gujaratis’ safety in Canada
A 22-year-old Gujarati girl Vidhi Megha was murdered in Niagara, Canada on May 15. She had been living in Canada for the last four years for higher studies.
Vidhi was reportedly staying in the Niagara Region of Canada. Along with studying, she was also working part-time to support her daily expenses and living costs.
The murder incident reportedly took place on May 15 close to the US-Canada border. Reports stated that Vidhi was stabbed by an unknown person. She suffered severe injuries during the assault and died at the scene.
Canadian police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident. Officials are trying to identify the accused and find out the exact reason behind the attack. Police have not yet released detailed information about the motive or the suspect involved in the crime.
Vidhi’s sudden death has raised concerns among Indian families whose children are studying abroad. Many students from Gujarat, especially from Anand and nearby districts, travel to countries like Canada every year for education and employment opportunities. Her death has once again highlighted concerns regarding the safety of international students living alone in foreign countries.
At present, Canadian authorities are continuing their investigation. Further details are expected after the police complete initial inquiries and forensic examination related to the case.
