Beaten up, ran over by car: Indian student murdered in Canada

An Indian student, son of a well-known bakery businessman from Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh, has been brutally murdered in Canada. The incident took place on March 14 in Fort St. John city of Canada, where college students first brutally beat Gurkirat Singh Manicha (24) and then ran him over with a car.
Reports suggest that seriously injured Gurkirat died during treatment in the hospital. Gurkirat was a resident of Parshwanath City on Dewas Road and was studying for a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management at Northern Lights College in Canada. He was also working in Walmart along with his studies.
As per reports, Gurkirat's elder brother Prabakorat Singh said that Gurkirat's friend living in Canada informed him about the incident on the phone on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. According to the information, after finishing his duty, some students of Northern Lights College took Gurkirat with them.
In a dispute over some previous matter, 10-12 youths beat him up and later crushed him with a car. According to the reports , the local police have taken 7-8 suspects into custody in the initial investigation, but they were later released after the lawyer arrived. The police are currently waiting for the postmortem report.
Gurkirat graduated from Vikram University after studying at Carmel Convent School in Ujjain and went to Canada for higher studies about a year and a half ago.
The process of bringing Gurkirat's body to India has been initiated, which is likely to take about three weeks. The family has requested the Central and State governments to help bring the body to India quickly.
