Andhra student in US dies while swimming at a waterfall in US
Hari Kiran Senagana

Hari Kiran Senagana, a 25-year-old student at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) in the United States, died while swimming in Minnesota on July 4.

The native of Chikkala, East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, India, tragically drowned at Illgen Falls near Lake Superior in Silver Bay, Minnesota.

Hari had travelled to the US on a student visa and was pursuing his master’s degree at UCM while working part-time to financially support himself.

Little did he know, while enjoying a waterfall with his friends, he was pulled suddenly by a forceful current.

After the rescue efforts, he could not be saved. As per a fundraising platform, “The cost of repatriation is very high, and his family urgently needs support. Please consider donating to or sharing this fundraiser. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference.”

Notably, in March 2025, an Indian student in the US, Sudiksha Konanki, was believed to have drowned during a holiday in the Dominican Republic.

In February last year, siblings Jagjeet Shivam Anand, 23, and Suhani Anand, 20, along with Kriti Bedi, 20, and Reema Sondhi, 43, died after the tide turned at the unpatrolled Forrest Caves beach in Newhaven.
