Amritsar man dies of heart attack in Guatemala on ‘dunki’ route to US
A man from Amritsar passed away in Guatemala, during his attempt to enter US illegally through the ‘dunki’ route from Guatemala.
As per reports, Gurpreet Singh, 33, had paid an agent in Chandigarh for him to reach Guyana, and from there, he paid a Pakistani agent to reach the US. In total, the man reportedly paid ₹36 lakh.
Punjab Minister of NRI Affairs, Kuldeep Dhaliwal of AAP, visited the village of the deceased. On his social media, he posted, “A young boy who was going to America by donkey route after investing ₹36 lakh in Ramdas town of Ajnala assembly constituency died on the way.”
“I request all Punjabis not to go to any country illegally and if you have collected so much money by taking loans then start a business here in Punjab, Mann government will fully help you,” urged Singh.
As per reports, the family of Singh has urged the Indian government to help them repatriate his body to perform his final rites.
South-American countries like Brazil and Guyana are hotspots for such ‘dunki’ routes, as the journey of the American dream on foot begins from here.
The illegal immigrants, from there, enter Central American countries like Nicaragua and Guatemala, finally heading to Mexico and attempting an illegal entry to US from the US-Mexico border.
