An Indian-origin entrepreneur living for 10 years in London has decided to return to India citing reasons, including inflation and taxes in the UK.
Pallavi Chhibber took to social media to explain on video why she and her husband decided to leave the UK. “Living in London has become more about survival than growth,” she said, adding, “Unfortunately, we don’t see long term opportunities for either of us in this country.”
London is ‘obnoxiously expensive’
Blaming the cost of living expenditure in London, she said that London is obnoxiously expensive. She mentioned that she and her family had recently eaten at Dishoom, an upscale Indian restaurant chain in the UK, where their bill for a Aloo Chaat, Jack Fruit, Fried Okra, and Biryani came to £80 — more than ₹8,500.
Insane taxes
Another reason for leaving London for the Chhibber family was that “taxes have become insane here”. According to her, they pay 42% as indirect tax. After taking indirect taxes into account, they were paying almost 50% of their salary as taxes.
Finally, Chhibber noted that she did not see promising opportunities for her children in a country where job prospects are steadily declining.
