An Indian restaurant named Saffron in Northampton has reported about four men walking away after finishing their meal worth ₹23,000 at the restaurant without paying.

The restaurant owner shared the CCTV footage on Facebook on August 5, and the video quickly went viral on social media. In the clip, the four men can be seen leaving the restaurant casually.

In its post, the restaurant wrote, “Last night at approximately 10.15 pm, four young men entered our restaurant, enjoyed a full meal, and left without paying. This kind of behaviour isn’t just theft – it affects hardworking small businesses and our local community.”

They also said that the incident had been reported to the police and the footage was handed over to the authorities.

The post further read, “If you recognise these individuals or have any information, please contact us directly or report it to the police. Help us hold these people accountable. There’s no place for this kind of behaviour in our community. Name and shame – let’s protect each other.”

The restaurant also shared an image of the bill, showing a total of £197 (₹23,000) for the items ordered by the group.

Following the viral post, Northamptonshire Police reportedly confirmed they were investigating the incident as theft and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Many Facebook users expressed support for the restaurant. One commenter wrote, “This is a case of theft and can lead to a sentence of up to six months.”

Another suggested, “Take a credit card to open a tab or take pre-payment – protect yourself!”

Some expressed anger, with one saying, “I’ve seen this happen many times, including in a small café on Gold Street! Make them pay before they receive the food – that’s the way forward!”

Another wrote, “Disgusting. It might be a laugh to them, but for others, it’s their livelihood. I wouldn’t blame any restaurant if they took payment before food was delivered. This is where we are — businesses have to treat everyone as a potential thief. Hope these morons get their own business someday. Karma can take time, but it always catches up.”
