Woman cop goes undercover at bus stop in Hyderabad, 40 men approach her

In a late-night operation to check women’s safety in Hyderabad, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner V Sumathi reportedly went undercover at a bus stop in Dilsukhnagar. The senior police officer stood alone at the bus stop between around 12.30 am and 3.30 am to understand the situation faced by women travelling at night.
According to reports, the commissioner acted like a normal commuter while police teams in civil clothes stayed nearby and secretly monitored the area. During the operation, nearly 40 men reportedly approached her within three hours. Officials said several of them appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or weed.
Police sources reportedly said the men included youngsters, students and some private employees. Many of them allegedly behaved in a suspicious or inappropriate manner near the bus stop. As the situation unfolded, police teams immediately stepped in and detained several people for questioning and further action.
The operation was reportedly planned to check how effective night patrolling is in the area and to identify places where women may feel unsafe during late hours. It was also meant to understand the problems faced by women who travel alone at night.
Police also carried out counselling sessions during the drive as part of an awareness campaign on women’s safety and public behaviour. Officials have not yet released complete details about the people detained or the legal action taken against them.
