In an incident that has sent shockwaves through Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, a 62-year-old retired Army veteran, Devendra Kumar, was allegedly murdered and dismembered by his wife and her lover, with the assistance of two other individuals, according to police reports on Tuesday.

The crime reportedly came to light on Saturday when severed hands and legs, wrapped in polythene, were discovered in a field near Khareed village, within the jurisdiction of the Sikandarpur Police Station. Subsequent investigation identified the deceased as Devendra Kumar.

Initially, the victim’s wife, Maya Devi, 44, attempted to mislead authorities by filing a missing person report at the Ballia City Kotwali Police Station on May 10. However, the investigation took a crucial turn when her own daughter, Ambli Gautam, reportedly testified against her mother, accusing her of the murder.

Based on this testimony, Maya Devi was apprehended and booked on charges of murder.

Ballia Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh informed reporters on Tuesday that Maya Devi confessed to the crime. According to a police statement, she admitted to killing her husband with the help of her lover, identified as truck driver Anil Yadav, and two accomplices, Mithilesh Patel and Satish Yadav.

Police reportedly arrested Mithilesh Patel on Monday, and apprehended Anil Yadav and Satish Yadav on Tuesday.

As per police accounts, the group allegedly murdered Devendra Kumar inside his residence in the Bahadurpur locality. They then proceeded to dismember his body into six parts, severing his arms, legs, and head, before disposing of the remains in various locations in an attempt to prevent identification.

The Superintendent of Police stated that the motive behind the murder was Maya Devi’s alleged affair with Anil Yadav.
