‘India Mein Itna Kaun Deta Hai?’ NRI’s Pricing Remark Leads Delhi Entrepreneur to End Consulting Call

A Delhi-based entrepreneur has shared how he ended a business consultation after a prospective client allegedly questioned the pricing of his company’s services, saying Indian founders should charge less than their international counterparts.

Rohan Dhawan, founder of business consultancy firm UAbility, described the incident in a LinkedIn post that has attracted attention online.

Conversation Changed After Pricing Discussion

According to Dhawan, the US-based NRI had booked the discovery call himself, joined on time and initially appeared interested in working with the consultancy.

However, the discussion reportedly took a different turn when the fee for UAbility’s 90-day consulting programme was shared.

The prospective client allegedly responded, “Yaar, ye toh US pricing hai. India mein itna kaun deta hai coaching ke liye? Indian founders ka USP hi cheap pricing hai,” suggesting that Indian businesses should keep their prices lower than global firms.

Founder Chose Not to Negotiate

Dhawan said he did not negotiate the price or offer a discount. Instead, he thanked the prospective client for his time and ended the call after about 13 minutes.

In his post, he also claimed that the amount quoted for the consulting programme was lower than what the client reportedly paid a junior copywriter in the US.

Message for Indian Entrepreneurs

Using the incident as an example, Dhawan said many Indian founders continue to undervalue their work because of long-standing beliefs that Indian services should cost less.

He argued that this mindset often leads entrepreneurs to charge significantly below international rates, affecting their earnings despite delivering quality services.

Ending his post with advice for fellow founders, Dhawan urged them not to reduce their prices simply to secure clients.

He wrote that entrepreneurs should have confidence in the value of their work, adding, “The buyers who can’t pay weren’t going to be your buyers anyway.”
