In the hearing of the ‘Gyanvapi’ case in Varanasi court, the Civil Judge Senior Division Fast Track dismissed the plea of the Hindu community for an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey on Friday.

As per the reports, the Hindu community had requested the survey as they believe that a ‘Shivling’ (idol of god) is present and asked the court to grant permission for the ASI survey with excavation.

The Muslim community opposed this, arguing that it could damage the mosque.

The Hindu side presented two demands in the fast-track court of the Senior Division Civil Judge in Varanasi.

The first demand was for an ASI survey of the ablution area to determine whether there is indeed a Shivling or a fountain there. The Hindu side claims that there is a 100-foot Shivling beneath the main dome of the mosque.

Therefore, excavation was requested without damaging the structure of the mosque to verify the claim regarding the Shivling.

In July, the Supreme Court put a stay on district court’s order of asking ASI to carry survey of Gyanvapi mosque.

A Varanasi court had earlier allowed the survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
