US Vice-President J D Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance to visit India this month
US Vice-President J D Vance is expected to visit India later this month, accompanied by his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, according to media reports. This will mark his second international trip as vice-president, following recent visits to France and Germany.
During his visit to Munich for a security conference, Vance reportedly made headlines with strong remarks on key global issues, including illegal migration, religious freedoms, and election integrity. His comments were said to have surprised some European allies who had anticipated discussions focused on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Usha Vance, whose parents migrated from India to the United States, will be visiting her ancestral country for the first time in her role as second lady. She became the first Indian-American Hindu Second Lady of the United States when Vance assumed office as the 50th vice-president on January 21, 2025.
In February, J D Vance met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Paris, where they reportedly discussed key areas of cooperation, including US support for India’s transition towards cleaner and more reliable nuclear energy. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit. Reports suggest that Modi, Vance, and Usha Vance shared a casual conversation over coffee, and Modi also extended warm wishes to their son, Vivek, on his birthday, while presenting gifts to the Vance children.
Following the Paris meeting, Modi travelled to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump, shortly after Trump returned to the White House.
