US Embassy and Consulates in India to remain closed till December 26

The US Embassy and Consulates in India will remain closed from December 24 to 26 due to federal holidays in the United States.
The US Mission to India issued an official note in this regard, and the US Embassy in India posted on their X handle, “The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, December 26, 2025, in accordance with the Presidential Executive Order providing for the closure of executive departments.”
As a result, routine consular services, including visa processing, passport services, and other public-facing operations, will not be available during the closures.
The order also clarified that heads of executive departments have the authority to keep specific offices and facilities operational if required for national security, defence, or other essential public needs.
Applicants and visitors are advised to plan their travel and appointments accordingly and check the official website of the US Embassy or Consulates for updates and emergency contact information. Emergency services for US citizens may still be available on a limited basis.
The embassy has stated that normal operations will resume on the next working days following the holidays.
