UP Police crackdown on social media accounts allegedly selling inappropriate Mahakumbh videos

The Uttar Pradesh Police have reportedly taken action against two social media accounts for allegedly sharing and selling inappropriate videos of women pilgrims bathing at the Mahakumbh.

Following directives from state police chief Prashant Kumar, the crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to curb misleading and objectionable content related to the religious gathering.

According to officials, the social media monitoring team detected that certain platforms were reportedly posting videos of women bathing and changing clothes at the Kumbh, violating their privacy and dignity. In response, cases were registered at the Kotwali Kumbh Mela police station, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

On February 17, authorities reportedly filed a case against an Instagram account for allegedly uploading inappropriate content featuring women pilgrims. The police have sought assistance from Meta, the parent company of Instagram, to trace the account operator. Action, including possible arrest, will follow once the necessary details are obtained.

In another instance on February 19, a Telegram channel was reportedly found offering similar videos for sale. Legal action has been initiated against the channel, and investigations are ongoing.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict measures against those misusing social media to share objectionable content or spread misinformation related to the Mahakumbh.
