In India, travelling via airline remains the same old dream of many lower middle-class and poor individuals.
The Udaan Regional Connectivity Scheme is an initiative that significantly transformed air travel for the country's middle class.
According to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the scheme has enabled 1.5 crore individuals from the middle-income group to fulfil their aspirations for faster, more affordable air travel.
Launched with the goal of enhancing regional connectivity, the scheme has made substantial strides in connecting India’s far-flung regions. It has linked 88 airports and operationalised 619 routes, making air travel more accessible to a larger segment of the population.
4 crore additional passengers
In an exciting development, the government is set to introduce a modified version of the Udaan scheme to further expand regional connectivity.
The revamped initiative will focus on adding 120 new destinations to the network, with a vision to serve an additional 4 crore passengers over the next decade.
Sitharaman emphasised that the new modifications will play a crucial role in addressing the growing demand for regional air travel and enhancing economic opportunities across India's smaller towns and cities.
The scheme is poised to further boost connectivity and ensure more citizens have access to affordable air travel, making it easier for them to explore new opportunities for work, leisure, and education.
