Two trainees found hanging at Sports Authority of India hostel in Kerala

Two teenage athletes staying at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala were found dead on Thursday morning, a police official said.

According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Sandra (17), a resident of Kozhikode district, and Vyshnavi (15), from Thiruvananthapuram district.

Police reportedly stated that Sandara was an athletics trainee and a +2 student, while Vyshnavi was training in kabaddi and studying in class 10. Both girls were residing at the SAI hostel at the time of the incident.

The  matter came to notice at around 5 am when the girls failed to turn up for their scheduled morning practice. Concerned hostel mates tried knocking on the door of the room, but when there was no response, hostel authorities forced the door open.

Inside the room, both girls were found hanging from ceiling fans, stated reports citing a police official.

Vyshanvi was reportedly allotted a different room in the hostel, but had stayed overnight in Sandra’s room on Wednesday. Other hostel resident had reportedly seen the two girls earlier that morning.

The Kollam East police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

While the exact cause behind the deaths is unclear, as no suicide note was recovered from the room.

After post-mortem examination is completed, the bodies will be handed over to the families, police added.
