Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Names Husband, Mother-In-Law As Accused In 636-Page Chargesheet

The CBI has filed a 636-page chargesheet naming Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh and her mother-in-law, former district judge Giribala Singh, as accused in the case concerning the 33-year-old former model and actor’s death in Bhopal. The chargesheet was filed before a CBI court on Monday, nearly three months after Twisha was found dead at her marital home. (The Times of India⁠)

Both Samarth and Giribala are currently in judicial custody and have sought bail before the High Court.

What charges has the CBI filed?

The CBI has invoked Sections 80(2), 85, 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The provisions relate to offences including dowry death, cruelty by a husband or his relatives, abetment of suicide and common intention.

The filing marks a major step in the investigation, formally placing Samarth and Giribala as accused in the CBI case. The charges are allegations at this stage and will be examined by the court.

Who were Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh?

Samarth Singh, a lawyer based in Bhopal, was married to Twisha on December 9, 2025. Giribala Singh, his mother, is a former district judge.

Twisha, a former Miss Pune who had worked as a model and actor, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, 2026.

Her family subsequently alleged that she had faced mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands.

Family raised questions over death

Twisha’s family questioned the circumstances surrounding her death and sought a fresh post-mortem examination.

Following the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s intervention, a second autopsy was conducted by a four-member team from AIIMS Delhi in Bhopal on May 24.

The post-mortem findings became an important part of the subsequent investigation. Records placed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court referred to multiple injuries on Twisha’s body in addition to the finding that she died due to hanging.

Her family also alleged prolonged dowry-related harassment and cruelty and pointed to messages in which Twisha had expressed distress before her death.

CBI takes over investigation

The case was initially investigated by Madhya Pradesh Police before the CBI took over following the Madhya Pradesh government’s recommendation and directions from the Supreme Court.

The central agency subsequently carried out forensic examination, digital analysis and reconstruction of the crime scene as part of its investigation.

Samarth and Giribala were arrested during the CBI probe and have remained in judicial custody. Giribala was taken into custody after the Madhya Pradesh High Court set aside her anticipatory bail.

Accused deny allegations

Samarth and Giribala have denied allegations of dowry demands and disputed some of the claims made during the investigation. They have maintained that Twisha died by suicide.

Twisha’s family, meanwhile, has welcomed the filing of the chargesheet while continuing to examine the extensive documents submitted by the CBI.

The chargesheet will now be considered by the court, where the evidence and allegations against the two accused will be tested through the judicial process.
