Trains to Prayagraj diverted after Mahakumbh stampede; special trains cancelled

During the Ganga snan on Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday, there was a massive stampede at the Mahakumbh organised in Prayagraj. During this time, reports surfaced that special trains for the Mahakumbh Mela traveling from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction to Prayagraj had been cancelled.
However, according to railway officials, no special trains for the Prayagraj Mahakumbh have been cancelled. All special trains will continue to operate as before.
According to reports, earlier, the Commercial Manager of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Railway Division, Manish Kumar, had stated, “Considering the heavy crowd on the day of Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj, the operation of special trains for the Maha Kumbh Mela from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction to Prayagraj has been halted. Regular trains will continue to run until further orders.” Due to the large crowd and the stampede in Prayagraj, discussions were held regarding the suspension of special trains.
Stampede at Maha Kumbh
Notably, a terrible stampede occurred at the Mahakumbh organised in Prayagraj during the bath on Mauni Amavasya. So far, it is feared that more than 10 people have lost their lives. It is reported that the cause of the stampede was the collapse of a barricade, which led to chaos at the site.
The crush of people led to several women fainting, and as they fell to the ground, a stampede-like situation emerged.
Around 30 women were injured as they made their way towards the Sangam for the Amrit Snan, one of the most significant rituals of the festival, as per reports.
The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital located within the Mahakumbh fairgrounds, while some of the more seriously injured were transferred to Bailey Hospital and Swaroop Rani Medical College for treatment.
