Towing Staff Tie Up Man, Drag Him to Police Station in Daman; MP Demands Action

A video showing a man being transported to a police station in Kachigam, Daman, with his hands and feet bound with a rope went viral on social media on Wednesday, triggering widespread outrage and raising severe concerns over the state of law and order in the Union Territory. The shocking visual created an atmosphere of deep anxiety and anger among local residents, prompting immediate calls for action against the towing staff involved.

The incident unfolded during a routine operation carried out by towing workers to remove vehicles that were obstructing public roads in the Kachigam area. According to reports, an allegedly intoxicated man arrived at the scene and entered into a heated scuffle with the towing personnel. Despite repeated instructions from the workers to move away and allow them to perform their duties, the man refused to retreat.

Scuffle Escalates into Vandalism

As the confrontation escalated, the man actively disrupted the operation by clashing with the employees and throwing stones at the glass windows of the towing vehicle, causing visible damage. Rather than waiting for law enforcement officers to arrive and manage the unruly individual, the towing staff took matters into their own hands.

The workers forcefully bound the man’s hands and legs with a rope, loaded him into a vehicle, and drove him directly to the local police station to hand him over. The public display of vigilante action sparked intense public anger once the video began circulating across social media platforms.

MP Demands Action Against Towing Staff

Following the public uproar, Diu-Daman Member of Parliament Umesh Patel intervened and formally reported the matter to Daman Police Chief Ketan Bansal, demanding a thorough investigation and strict measures against those responsible.

Patel asserted that regardless of whether the man had committed a crime by breaking the vehicle's glass, no private individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands.

Emphasising that police personnel alone are entrusted with maintaining law and order in Daman, the MP stated that private towing workers cannot be permitted to perform such inhuman acts. Following the directive and public outcry, Daman Police have initiated an official investigation into the conduct of the towing employees involved in the incident.
