Three-member teams from AAIB, DGCA to probe Baramati plane crash: MoCA

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Thursday announced that a three-member investigation team will be formed to probe the aircraft crash near Baramati, Maharashtra, assuring a thorough, transparent and time-bound inquiry.

In a post on X, MoCA said, “Following the unfortunate aircraft accident near Baramati, all necessary response and investigative mechanisms were activated immediately”. The ministry stressed that ensuring a comprehensive and transparent investigation remains its top priority.

According to officials, a team of three officers from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Delhi, along with another three-member team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Mumbai Regional Office, reached the crash site on January 28. The Director General of AAIB also visited the site on the same day.

The investigation is progressing at a fast pace, and the black box of the crashed aircraft has been recovered, which is expected to play a crucial role in determining the cause of the accident. MoCA stated that the probe is being conducted strictly in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laid-down guidelines.

The ministry further clarified that the investigation has been initiated under Rules 5 and 11 of the AAIB Rules, 2025, and will be completed within a defined timeframe.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said it has extended immediate assistance following a request from civic authorities. In a statement on X, the IAF said it deployed a dedicated team of Air Warriors to provide essential Air Traffic Control (ATC) and meteorological services at Baramati Airport, ensuring the safety of ongoing air operations.

Officials said the swift coordination between civil aviation authorities and the Indian Air Force highlights the government’s commitment to maintaining aviation safety and supporting emergency response efforts in times of crisis.
