Martyred soldier Mahipalsinh Vala from Ahmedabad's Odhav amongst the three jawans who lost their lives

Three army personnel were martyred in an encounter between the army and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam on Aug 5. One of the jawans martyred in the clash was Mahipalsinh Pravinsinh Wala, who was originally from Mojidad village in Surendranagar but was residing in Ahmedabad's Odhav area.

Mahipalsinh was young and had been serving in the army for eight years. His mortal remains were brought to Ahmedabad by air. His funeral procession will commence from his residence at Viratnagar in the Odhav area. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel had also reached the martyr's residence in Ahmedabad and will take part in the funeral procession.

Three soldiers were killed during an encounter between terrorists and security forces at the Halan forest area in the higher reaches of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said on Aug 4.

“On specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists on higher reaches of Halan in Kulgam, operations launched by security forces on Aug 3. In exchange of firing with terrorists, three personnel sustained injuries and later succumbed,” the army said, adding that search operations are continuing in the area.

Earlier, a joint team of police and security forces received an input about the presence of terrorists.

After the security forces cordoned off the area, terrorists hiding there started firing, drawing retaliation by the personnel leading to the encounter.

The Twitter handle of the Indian army’s Chinar Corps tweeted information about the operation, which is still going on.

Srinagar police arrested three terrorists
