Telangana tunnel collapse Eight trapped Indian Army deploys task force for rescue

At least two workers were injured and eight others were trapped when a portion of the tunnel being dug as part of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) collapsed near Domalapenta on Saturday.

A total of 50 persons were working on the left-side tunnel when the roof collapsed for three meters. The accident occurred at the 14th km point.

While 42 workers came out of the tunnel, the remaining eight were trapped. Those trapped include two engineers and two machine operators.

The trapped workers include three from Jharkhand, two from Uttar Pradesh, and one each from Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

Emergency teams including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed for rescure operations.

The Indian Army has swiftly mobilised its Engineer Task Force (ETF) for rescue operations following a tunnel collapse near Srisailam, Telangana. Equipped with modern technology, the ETF is conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.

Reddy reviewed the accident on Sunday. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Irrigation Department Advisor Adityanath Das, who visited the site, provided the CM with a detailed briefing on the accident. CM's advisor Vem Narender Reddy and other senior officials also participated in the review meeting.

PM Narendra Modi called Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and discussed the rescue of personnel at the SLBC tunnel. PM Modi assured all help and assistance in the rescue efforts.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, during the nearly 20-minute update, CM Revanth Reddy illustrated the urgency with which the government responded after a portion of the roof of the under-construction tunnel collapsed on Saturday.
