Telangana Assembly Ruckus: KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao Among BRS Leaders Booked For Alleged Assault On Police

Hyderabad Police have registered a case against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao, BRS Deputy Leader in the Telangana Assembly T. Harish Rao and several other party legislators over Monday’s confrontation at the Assembly entrance. The leaders have been accused of obstructing police personnel, pushing security staff and allegedly manhandling policemen during the protest.

BRS Leaders Booked Over Assembly Entry Row

According to the FIR filed by Detective Inspector M. Balaswamy, the BRS leaders arrived at the Assembly wearing black T-shirts carrying political slogans and allegedly attempted to enter despite security restrictions issued on the Speaker’s orders.

The FIR alleges that some of the leaders abused women constables, threatened police personnel, grabbed policemen by their collars and pushed members of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT).

Former ministers Jagdish Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy are among those named in the case.

BRS legislators Padi Kaushik Reddy, Shambipur Raju, Sanjay, Vijayudu, Sudheer Reddy and Kova Lakshmi have also been named.

The case was registered at Saifabad Police Station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The charges include alleged assault or use of force against a public servant on duty, offences involving a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation and intentional insult.

Two BRS MLCs Arrested Over Speaker Remarks

The police action also extended to two BRS MLCs on Tuesday.

Tata Madhusudan, also known as Madhu, and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy were arrested from their residences over alleged derogatory and abusive remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The case followed a complaint by Pollepalli Venkatesham, the Officer on Special Duty to the Assembly Speaker.

The complaint alleged that the Speaker, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste (Madiga) community, was intentionally insulted and humiliated in public in the presence of journalists, media crews, Assembly staff and security personnel.

Police registered a case under Section 352 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

291 BJP Workers Also Booked

Meanwhile, the police have registered cases against 291 BJP leaders and workers over their attempt to lay siege to the Telangana Assembly during a protest over the fee reimbursement issue.

Four Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members have also been booked in connection with the protests.

Police Vehicle Damaged During Protest

Another case relates to damage to the windscreen of a police vehicle carrying BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao.

Rao had been detained during the protest near the Assembly. According to the complaint, a couple of protesters climbed onto the police vehicle, following which its windscreen was damaged.

Police are investigating the incidents and the allegations made against the BRS, BJP and AAP members.
