Tech Mahindra denies ‘footwear-free zone’ claim during Ramadan amid TCS row

Tech Mahindra has rejected allegations that it introduced religion-based workplace rules after claims surfaced online about a ‘footwear-free zone’ in one of its offices during Ramadan.
The controversy began when advocate Ashutosh Dubey shared a post on social media platform X, citing messages from an alleged employee. The post claimed that a pantry area at the company’s Goregaon office had been designated as a “footwear-free zone” to accommodate prayers and iftar during Ramadan, and that employees were encouraged to follow the practice in the spirit of unity.
The claims also extended to accusations of preferential treatment, including alleged bias in hiring and uneven enforcement of workplace policies. Similar assertions later emerged regarding the company’s Telangana office, accompanied by images circulating online.
In response, Tech Mahindra reportedly issued a statement dismissing the claims as inaccurate and unfounded following an internal review. The company clarified that the image being circulated did not belong to any of its offices and denied any discrimination in hiring or workplace practices.
Reaffirming its stance, the company said it remains committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment where all employees are treated fairly, without discrimination on the basis of religion or any other factor.
