The Supreme Court today ordered women’s reservation for the posts in the Delhi High Court Bar Association.

The apex court said that at least three women members should be there out of 10 executive committee members, with at least one women senior designated advocate.

The court has directed a general body meeting of the association to implement this within ten days.

The bar association was also directed to reserve the post of treasurer and one more office bearer’s post for a woman member of the association.

The same Supreme Court bench, while hearing pleas seeking reservation for women in Delhi’s bar bodies, had asked the association to consider a woman as vice president.

The bench reportedly found it ‘disappointing’ that since 1962, the Delhi Bar Association has had no female president.

The bar bodies of Delhi include the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD), Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), and all District Bar Associations, and the pleas call for 33% reservation for women in them.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) was also directed to implement 33% women reservation by the apex court earlier this year.
