The Supreme Court of India has issued a ruling that will bring relief to families of Water Supply Board employees who have passed away.
The apex court overturned earlier decisions by a single bench, division bench of high courts, providing justice to the affected families.
The case pertains to employees of the Water Supply Board whose families were denied appropriate benefits following their demise. The court ruled that under Rule 3.7 of the Water Supply Board regulations, families of deceased employees are entitled to specific assistance.
The government had previously disputed these claims, leading to years of legal battles. However, the Supreme Court has now directed the board to ensure all eligible families receive the benefits.
The top court in the country emphasised that denying aid to these families violates their legal and moral rights. It has instructed the Water Supply Board to expedite the process and ensure compliance with the order. The families, many of whom have faced financial difficulties, expressed relief and gratitude for the court’s intervention.
The judgment addresses an issue dating back to January 1, 2019, when the matter first surfaced. The families of deceased employees had been struggling to receive their rightful aid due to legal ambiguities. The board is now obligated to provide financial support and other benefits as per the guidelines.
