In collaboration with the Income Tax Department, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated a new educational effort to introduce income tax concepts to school students.

“A set of eight comic books, published by the Directorate of Public Relations, Publication & Publicity, Directorate of Income Tax, has been launched under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. This engaging series features Motu Patlu and aims to promote tax literacy among school children and create awareness about the role of Income Tax in the development of the country,” read a CBSE release.

The comic series will feature the popular characters Motu and Patlu, using their humorous interactions and cartoon illustrations to simplify and explain income tax concepts to students in Classes 10 to 12.

The objective is to make a serious and complex subject both accessible and engaging through an entertaining medium.

Given the widespread popularity of Motu and Patlu among children and teenagers, the government decided to use these characters as relatable guides for learning about taxation.

The comics will also highlight how increased tax revenue contributes to national development. The series has been produced in multiple regional languages to ensure wider accessibility.

Schools across the country have been instructed to share the digital links of the comics with students, teachers, and parents. Additionally, schools are allowed to supplement the comics with extra explanatory material if required.

This initiative is expected to spark curiosity and improve understanding among students regarding how India’s taxation system works and why it matters.
