Specialised courses for Indian students in the USA to commence from 2024

The US state department has designed specialised courses for Indian students, in line with India's New National Education Policy (NEP), that will offer a pathway to a Master's in the USA for Indian students.
Over 20 USA universities and 15 Indian universities are in talks with the US state department on how to take advantage of these newly introduced courses.
Comes with a three-year stay back
To explore employment opportunities and pay their student loans, the programs, which are of one-year duration, will offer Indian students a three-year stay back in the USA.
The industry specialisation
Since they are one-year Master's programmes, they would aim to provide industry-specific training. Moreover, the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) would be offered.
The specialised courses are likely to commence in the fall semester of 2024 (late August to early September).
The inception
According to reports, the program has been designed by Akhilesh Lakhtakia, who studied India's New National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for a year. Lakhtakia is also a Jefferson Science Fellow at the South and Central Asia Bureau of the US state department.
His mandate was to come up with a programme that would benefit US and Indian governments, US universities, and Indian students.
Reportedly, Lakhtakia described the programme as ‘student-centred, flexible, multidisciplinary, futuristic, and international’. He stated that the state department had brought him to create a win-win for both countries, in line with India’s NEP, but in his mind, the client was always Indian students.
