Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. In the morning, her mortal remains were kept at her Mumbai residence, 'Casa Grand', for the last rites. Where many Bollywood and political personalities paid their respects to her. She was wrapped in the tricolour and saluted. She was also given a guard of honour by the Mumbai Police during the cremation.

'Asha Tai', as she was affectionately known, passed away on Sunday, April 12, at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure following a cardiac arrest. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier as she was suffering from extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.

The singer’s mortal remains are being taken from her Lower Parel residence to Shivaji Park crematorium in a flower-decorated ‘Moksha Rath’ (Salvation Chariot). A large number of her fans and Bollywood stars have joined the last journey.

The mortal remains of the singing legend were draped in the tricolour, as she was laid to rest with full state honours.

The Moksha Rath was decorated with flowers of her choice for her last journey. Asha Tai loved white and yellow flowers, so the Moksha Rath has been decorated with yellow flowers of Rajnigandha and Galgota. 

In her 82-year singing career, Bhosle won more than 100 awards, including 9 Filmfares. She was honoured with the country's second-highest civilian honour, 'Padma Vibhushan'.

The Maharashtra Cabinet has paid tribute to Bhosle. To honour her immortal legacy, the Cabinet has decided to approve the proposal to set up a charitable trust or social institution in her name. Chief Minister Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also paid tribute to Asha Bhosle.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, actor Vicky Kaushal, Vivek Oberoi, singers Anup Jalota and Shaan, filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, actress Padmini Kolhapure, arrived at the Shivaji Park to pay their last respects.

The singing legend was given the guard of honour at her residence in the Lower Parel area of Mumbai earlier in the day.

Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle broke down while speaking to visitors at the legendary singer’s residence.

She had a stature in the music world as high as her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar. Born in 1933 into a music-loving Mangeshkar family, Asha Tai started singing at the age of just ten. After recording her first song in 1943, she had made a distinct mark in Bollywood by the 50s. Initially, she was known only for cabaret songs, but by singing the ghazals of 'Umrao Jaan', she proved that she was an expert in all types of songs. She received 7 Filmfare Awards and two National Awards for the songs 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai' and 'Mera Kuch Saaman'.

Bhosle, a legendary singer of the Indian music world, started her singing journey at the young age of just 10 years with the song 'Chala Chala Navbala' from the Marathi film 'Maaja Bal' in 1943, while in Hindi cinema she got success with the song 'Sawan Aaya Re' from the film 'Chunaria' in 1948. Asha Tai has made a name for herself by singing more than 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages ​​in various genres like film music, pop, ghazal and classical music.

In her 82-year singing career, Bhosle won more than 100 awards, including 9 Filmfares. She was honoured with the country's second-highest civilian honour, 'Padma Vibhushan' 2008 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2000.

In 1997, she became the first Indian singer to be nominated for a Grammy Award, while in 2011, her name was also recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most studio recordings. 

Her contribution to the field of Indian music industry will always be significant.
