Sonam Wangchuk Says He Will End Hunger Strike Today Only If 3 Conditions Are Met

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he will end his indefinite hunger strike on Monday only if three conditions are fulfilled. Wangchuk, who is on the 23rd day of his fast, has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital since July 18.

In a handwritten note shared on X, Wangchuk alleged that he was being kept under "illegal detention" at the hospital.

What are Wangchuk's 3 conditions?

1. Government accepts responsibility

Wangchuk said he will end his fast if the government accepts accountability for failures in the education system, including repeated examination paper leaks.

2. Parliament assurance

He said if he and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leadership are allowed to reach Parliament and MPs from different parties assure them that the issue will be raised during the Monsoon Session, he will call off the strike.

3. If health prevents him from continuing

If his medical condition makes it impossible to continue fasting, Wangchuk said he will end the protest only if MPs and leaders from various political parties visit him at Safdarjung Hospital and give the same assurance that the issue will be taken up in Parliament.

Protest over education system

Wangchuk said his protest is aimed at highlighting what he describes as serious failures in India's education system, particularly recurring examination paper leaks. He has demanded that the government acknowledge these shortcomings and commit to meaningful reforms.

His health has become a growing concern among supporters. Hospital authorities have said he is receiving continuous medical care due to the seriousness of his condition.

Wangchuk reiterated that he would end his fast only after receiving concrete assurances, not verbal promises, on the issues he has raised.
