In the ongoing anti-terror operations in Shopain and Tral areas in Jammu and Kashmir, a total of six terrorists were neutralised.

“Three terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in an encounter with security forces on Thursday in Nader village of Tral district Pulwama districts,” said officials.

Officials confirmed the identities of the killed terrorists as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmad Bhat all from Pulwama.

Asif was allegedly involved in the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack where 26 Indian tourists were killed, according to a source.

This is the second encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in just two days.

This encounter happened just two days after another operation in Shopian district where three terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed. Two of them were identified as Shahid Kuttay, Ehsan Ul Haq and Adnan Shafi, from Shopian.

“Kuttay had joined LeT in 2023 and was involved in an attack at Danish Resort on April 8 last year, where two German tourists and a driver were injured. He was also linked to the killing of a BJP Sarpanch in Heerpora in May 2024. Shafi had joined in 2024 and was involved in the murder of a non-local worker in Wachi, Shopian,” according to reliable source.

Maj Gen Dhananjay Joshi, GOC V Force said on Thursday, “We got information on the possible presence of a terrorist group in the higher reaches in Kellar.”

“On Tuesday morning, on detection of some movement, our parties challenged the terrorists, who retaliated with fire. Our parties neutralised them. The second operation in the Tral area was conducted in a border village. As we were laying a cordon at this village, the terrorists positioned themselves in different houses and fired at us. At this time, the challenge we faced was rescuing the civilian villagers,” he added.
