Six killed, several injured as uprooted tree falls near Manikaran Sahib in Kullu

A tragic mishap struck near the Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib parking area in Kullu on Sunday when a hollow tree was uprooted and fell on a group of people, killing six and injuring six others.

According to Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kullu, Ashwani Kumar, the deceased include Reena from Manikaran, Kullu; Barshini from Vijay Nagar, Bangalore; and Sameer Gurung of Nepali origin. Two other victims, a male and a female, remain unidentified. The injured, who have been shifted to a local community hospital in Jari, include Ramesh Babu, 53, his wife Pallavi Ramesh, 49, and their son Bhargav, 24, all from Bangalore. Others injured are Tumpa Acharya, 40, from Assam, and Parachi, 23, from Hisar, Haryana.

Following the incident, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jairam Thakur expressed his condolences. Taking to social media platform X, he called the accident “very sad and unfortunate,” extending his sympathies to the bereaved families. “I pray to God to give place to all the departed souls in his sacred feet and provide strength to their families to bear this unbearable grief,” he wrote.

Thakur also urged the government and local administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts to assist those affected.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also expressed deep grief over the tragedy and assured that the state government would provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families. He directed officials to ensure the best medical care for the injured and extended his prayers for their swift recovery.
