Six Killed, 20 Injured As Bus Rams Into Truck In Telangana’s Suryapet

Six people, including five women, were killed and 20 others injured after a private bus rammed into a container truck in Telangana’s Suryapet district early Wednesday, police said.

The accident occurred around 4.30 am on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway near Dwarakunta in Kodad mandal.

Bus crashes into stationary truck

The private bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Eluru via Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh when it allegedly collided with the stationary truck from behind.

Police suspect the truck had stopped after hitting a road divider before the speeding bus crashed into it. The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus.

The bus was carrying 42 passengers at the time of the accident. Six passengers died at the spot, while 20 others were injured.

Injured shifted to government hospital

The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Kodad for treatment. Some of them were reported to be in critical condition.

Police personnel reached the accident site and launched rescue and relief operations with the help of other personnel.

Three of the deceased were identified as Y. Chinni (32), B. Mary Joshna (29) and Chennakeshavulu Nagendrababu (21). The identities of the remaining victims were yet to be confirmed in the report.

Telangana CM expresses condolences

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the accident and conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed.

He directed the Chief Secretary to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care.

Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy also expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure quality treatment for the injured.

The minister stressed that there should be no compromise on safety standards in private buses and driver alertness, and called for stricter monitoring to ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
