Seven Killed in Stampede at Ashok Dham Temple in Bihar’s Lakhisarai

At least seven people were killed and more than 12 injured in a stampede outside the Ashok Dham Temple in Bihar's Lakhisarai district on Monday morning, as thousands of devotees gathered to offer prayers and perform Jalabhishek on the third Monday of the holy Shravan month.

Two trains arrive, triggering massive crowd surge

Lakhisarai District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar said an unprecedented surge in devotees, intensified by the arrival of two trains around 6.30-6.45 a.m., led to a barricade collapsing outside the temple.

The incident occurred amid a heavy rush of devotees who had gathered at the temple to mark the third Monday of Sawan.

Panic spreads among devotees

According to preliminary information, an electric wire reportedly fell, triggering panic among the crowd. Rumours subsequently spread, prompting devotees to rush in different directions.

The sudden movement of the crowd resulted in a stampede, with several people getting trapped and crushed.

Locals and fellow devotees immediately began rescue efforts, while police and administrative officials rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident.

Injured shifted to hospitals

Rescue operations were launched and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Administrative officials reached the temple premises and began overseeing rescue operations and crowd management.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
