Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha appointed Delhi’s new commissioner of police

An IPS of the 1992 batch Satish Golcha was appointed as the new Commissioner of Police of Delhi, a day after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during the Jan Sunvai public event at her residence.
Golcha will replace SBK Singh, the acting commissioner of Delhi and Director General of Home Guards, who was appointed as acting CP on August 1.

Who is Satish Golcha?
Before this, Golcha served as interim Director General (prisons) Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police, and Special Commissioner of Police in Delhi.
Golcha was Special CP Law and Order in 2020 when riots broke out in North-East Delhi. Apart from this, Satish Golcha has also served as the DGP of Arunachal Pradesh.
Attack on CM Rekha Gupta
The development follows a shocking attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta during a Jan Sunvai event.
The security at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Civil Lines on Thursday was significantly increased. A team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was deployed to bolster security arrangements.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the political circle, prompting a flurry of visits by political leaders.
The accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, who allegedly assaulted CM Gupta during the public grievance event, was produced in court on Thursday and was remanded to five days of police custody.
Delhi Police had registered a case against the 41-year-old under the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), charging him under Section 109 (attempt to murder), Section 132 (obstruction of a public servant), and Section 221 (impeding public duties).
Central intelligence agencies and the Delhi Police Special Cell are jointly questioning the accused to determine his motive.
