SC upholds Gujarat High Court verdict, orders Aniruddhsinh Jadeja to surrender by Sept 18

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered Aniruddhsinh Jadeja, convicted under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), to surrender by September 18 to serve his life sentence, as per reports.
Jadeja, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1997 for the 1988 murder of Congress MLA Popatlal Sorathiya during an Independence Day flag-hoisting event in Gondal, was released from prison in 2018. His release was based on a letter to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and the claim that he had completed 18 years of imprisonment.
The Gujarat High Court, however, quashed his release, ruling that Jadeja must serve his full life sentence. Upholding that order, the Supreme Court has now directed him to surrender by September 18.
The apex court also set aside the order of then Jail Superintendent T S Bisht, who had allowed Jadeja’s release in 2018.
Meanwhile, police are also searching for Jadeja and his son Rajdeepsinh Jadeja in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged suicide of businessman Amit Khunt
