In 74 years, only 12 women were designated as senior advocates by the Supreme Court.
In 2019, six women advocates were given the designations. The recent additions, recommended by CJI Chandrachud, aim to bridge the gender gap in the legal profession and encourage the advancement of women in the judiciary.
