Supreme Court today issued notice to the Maharashtra assembly speaker and sought reply on a petition filed by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) MLA, Sunil Prabhu against the delay by him in deciding the disqualification petitions against CM Eknath Shinde and the MLAs supporting him.

A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chadrachud, issued notice to the Maharashtra assembly speaker and sought reply on a petition filed by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) MLA, Sunil Prabhu.

Senior lawyer, Devadatt Kamat, appearing for Prabhu, said that the state Speaker has been sitting over and was not taking a decision appropriately.

"Issue notice, returnable in two weeks," CJI Chandrachud said, and fixed the matter for further hearing after two weeks, when the State Assembly Speaker completed filing the reply on Prabhu's petition.

Prabhu had recently moved the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly to expeditiously decide the disqualification petitions against the rebel MLAs led by Eknath Shinde.
