As the season’s first heavy showers fell on the Shikhara of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra in Ayodhya, the roof of the sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha) had water leaking through it, claimed the chief priest of the temple.

Talking to the media, Ram temple chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das expressed shock and said that ‘big engineers of the country are constructing the temple, but no one knew that water would drip from the roof during rains’.

The temple which is being constructed at the estimated cost of ₹1,800 crore faces water leaking in the roof.

On the night of June 22, heavy rains reportedly caused severe waterlogging on the Rampath road and its adjoining streets.

Sewer water reportedly infiltrated homes in the vicinity, while sections of Rampath Road and other recently built roads in Ayodhya caved in  at certain areas.

The first rains in the Shri Ram’s Ayodhya Nagri have turned out to be hazardous and distressing for the local citizens.
