Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has reportedly expelled 27 leaders, including two sitting MLAs, for alleged anti-party activities and for acting against the organisation’s ideology during the Bihar Assembly elections, as per reports.

In a statement issued by RJD’s state president Mangani Lal Mandal, the expelled leaders have also been suspended from the party’s primary membership. The action was reportedly taken after the party found that these leaders were working against RJD and Mahagathbandhan candidates.

Among those expelled are MLAs Chote Lal Rai (Parasa) and Mohammad Kamran (Govindpur). The list also includes four former legislators Ram Prakash Mahto, Anil Sahni, Saroj Yadav and Anil Yadav along with former MLC Ganesh Bharti.

Other notable leaders who have reportedly been removed from the party include Ritu Jaiswal, Akshay Lal Yadav, Ram Sakha Mahto, Avneesh Kumar, Bhagat Yadav, Mukesh Yadav, Sanjay Rai, Kumar Gaurav and Rajeev Kushwaha, among others.

A senior RJD leader was quoted as saying that the disciplinary action was taken because several of these leaders were allegedly supporting rival candidates instead of those officially backed by the RJD and the INDIA bloc.

The 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11 with results expected to be announced on November 14.
