Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Amit Sharma said the control room received information at around 11.05 am. Police and Civil Defence personnel reached the site approximately eight minutes later and began examining the device.
The shell was then secured and moved away from the populated area to an isolated location for disposal.
Mortar Shell Destroyed In Controlled Explosion
The device was placed inside a deep pit and neutralised at around 2 pm. A loud explosion was heard during the disposal operation.
Amer Station House Officer Gautam Dotasara confirmed that the live mortar shell had been found among waste in a field in the village.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Police Probe Origin Of Shell
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine where the mortar shell came from and how it ended up in the village field.
Civil Defence officials said Sharma led the disposal operation, with CDE Asrar Ahmed, Rajesh Kumar, Yunus Khan, Mohammad Bilal, Deepak Saini and Ghanshyam Sharma among the personnel involved.
The investigation is underway.
