Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani in the light of fresh allegations by US-based short-seller Hindenburg, Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned why SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch has not resigned from her position.
In his post on X, Gandhi expressed serious concerns about the "integrity of SEBI", claiming "it has been gravely compromised by allegations against its Chairperson".
About honest investors in the country having pressing questions for the government, Gandhi asked, “Why hasn’t SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch resigned yet? If investors lose their hard-earned money, who will be held accountable—PM Modi, the SEBI Chairperson, or Gautam Adani? In light of the new and very serious allegations that have surfaced, will the Supreme Court look into this matter suo moto once again?."
He further added that it is abundantly clear why PM Modi is afraid to order a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the allegations and what will come out.
Hindenburg has alleged that Madhabi Buch had stakes in offshore funds linked to the Adani Group, which is the reason it suspects why SEBI was unwilling to act against the conglomerate.
