R G Kar medical college student found dead in ESI quarters room
Days after a Kolkata court delivered its judgment in the R G Kar Medical College rape and murder case, a student from the same college was found dead in her room at the ESI Quarters. She reportedly died by strangulation.
The deceased, a 20-year-old second-year medical student, was living with her mother in those quarters.
According to reports, the mother became concerned when her daughter did not answer calls. When she went to the room and broke open the door, she found her daughter hanging. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Speculation suggests that the girl may have been suffering from depression.
A complaint has been registered with the police, and an investigation is ongoing.
No suicide note was reportedly found at the scene.
Earlier, in the case of the rape and murder of an on-duty medical student of the same college, after six months of hearings, the sole convict, Sanjay Roy, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Kolkata court.
Justice Anirban Das also directed the West Bengal government to pay a compensation of ₹17 lakh to the victim's parents.
